The production processes for CBD hash are about as diverse as the end products themselves. Almost every region in the world has its own traditional methods for producing hashish. While it is common in India and Pakistan to extract pollen for hash production directly from the plant while it is still fresh (sometimes even still standing in the field), plants for other types of hash, such as our «Sahara Gold,» must first be harvested and dried. The processing of traditional hashish is enormously labor-intensive. Basically, three types of «CBD hash» can be distinguished:
CBD Kief
Technically, kief or CBD kief isn't strictly hash. Kief is generally referred to as the collected pollen of the cannabis plant. CBD kief can be easily obtained by shaking dried cannabis flowers. The dried trichomes fall off the flowers and can be collected. The end product is called kief, pollen, or simply dust. When this is pressed into shape, something is created that is often called hash, but it only deserves that name to a limited extent. This is because regular hash requires further processing under pressure and heat. Only then are the traditional types of hash (like Moroccan hash or Red Lebanese hash) that we know created.
REGULAR CBD HASH
Regular, traditional, or «normal» CBD hash is essentially nothing more than processed CBD kief. There are countless methods for this, which vary by country and region. In all cases, the CBD kief is worked through friction and pressure, which changes its consistency, smell, and even color. In Morocco, the kief is traditionally wrapped in fine cloths and then worked for hours or even days with wooden sticks through blows. The resulting pressure and temperature change the raw material and transform it from dry kief into a malleable, solid mass. Classic Moroccan hash is hard and brittle when cold and only becomes malleable and soft again when heated. Nowadays, however, it is difficult to find truly traditional Moroccan hashish. With the influx of new cannabis strains (especially from the USA) into Morocco, the traditional methods of hash production have also changed. Today's Moroccan CBD hash is softer and more malleable even when cold, but it still ranks among the best and most traditional hash varieties in the world.
CBD Hash
CBD Charas also comes in many shapes and colors. However, CBD Charas clearly differs from regular CBD hash in that Charas is not made from kief (i.e., dried and collected trichomes) but from the fresh cannabis resin. Traditionally, to obtain Charas, individual fresh cannabis flowers are rubbed in the hands until the still-moist resin transfers to the hands. Then, the hands are rubbed until the accumulating resin slowly separates. The CBD resin obtained in this way is particularly soft and creamy and, due to the time-consuming extraction process, is a very exquisite CBD hash product. The different types of Charas are mainly due to the plant strains used for production and their growing region. Traditionally, Charas are often produced in the higher altitudes of the Himalayas, as there, according to legend, the plants develop particularly much resin to protect themselves against the harsh climate. In any case, CBD Charas is one of the most exquisite CBD hash varieties and is hard to beat in terms of creamy consistency and unique flavor.
CBD WAX, CBD CRUMBLE, OR CBD SHATTER
CBD wax, CBD crumble, or CBD shatter are essentially different names for one and the same thing: CBD concentrates. In the USA, these concentrates are also counted as hash in a broader sense. However, there are fundamental differences compared to CBD hash as we know it in Europe. CBD wax is obtained by strongly pressing and lightly heating (60-110°C) a CBD flower. A honey- or wax-like sap flows from the pressed flower and is collected. This «CBD wax» is highly concentrated and contains cannabinoids and terpenes in a much higher density than in the unpressed flower. Basically, about 1 gram of CBD wax can be obtained from 10 grams of dried flowers. Consequently, genuine CBD wax is also quite expensive. However, there are also cheaper methods to obtain the corresponding concentrates. CBD crumble or CBD shatter often refers to a substance similar to CBD wax, but which has been obtained from CBD flowers using different extraction processes (with the help of solvents such as butane, ethanol, or CO2). This allows the desired substances to be extracted from the flower more efficiently than by solely pressing and heating. Such products are often produced or mixed in the lab afterward from various concentrates and extracts. Various CBD shatter or CBD crumble can be made from different cannabinoid extracts and artificial terpenes. The resulting end product is considerably cheaper than genuine CBD wax.
