It has now been several years since K-Tipp conducted its last CBD oil test and published a «CBD oil test winner Switzerland» has determined. A lot has changed since then. Some of the CBD drops in the test are no longer available. Others, such as our ‘CBD drops test winner Switzerland’ CBD oil PURE 16% is still a bestseller today and is sold in pharmacies and drugstores throughout Switzerland. But what was tested back then and what do the test results mean today?
K-Tipp tested CBD oils in its issue no. 19 (published on 13 November). Our CBD Oil Pure 16% was tested in it. Not only is it the cheapest CBD oil in the test, it is also one of the only ones that is really correctly dosed, as will become clear later in the text. But one thing at a time, first the results as shown in the K-Tipp:
These CBD drops were mislabelled
These CBD drops were correctly labelled
A third of all CBD oils tested contain far too little CBD!
This is astonishing and alarming. It is particularly striking that even large distributors such as Hemplix (with a measured 6.6% instead of 10% CBD) or Smart CBD (with 5.2% instead of 10% CBD) appear among the CBD oils that were tested too low and that obviously products that are sold in pharmacies (e.g. Drogovita or Phytopharma - both even produced by drugstores or pharmacies), sometimes contain significantly too little CBD.
Some CBD oils are almost twice as expensive as others!
Another striking feature of the CBD drops test in K-Tipp is the enormous price differences between the various CBD drops. Since the expensive raw material cannabidiol (CBD) is almost exclusively responsible for the high prices of CBD oil, the prices can be compared very well. We have therefore taken the trouble to categorise the correctly declared products by price per gram of CBD:
| Rank | Product | CBD% | Price per gram |
| 1 | Qualicann Pure, 16% (CBD oil test winner Switzerland) | 16% | 55.60 |
| 2 | Mary Jane Full Spectrum MCT Drops, 10% | 10% | 57.90 |
| 3 | Dolocan Organix CBD Oil, 10% | 10% | 59.90 |
| 4 | Pure 10%, Pure Drops | 10% | 59.90 |
| 5 | Swissextract Full Spectrum 1200, 12% | 12% | 61.66 |
| 6 | Biossom CBD+CBDa Ultra 16% Spectre Compact | 16% | 62.40 |
| 7 | Swissextract Broad Spectrum, 12% | 12% | 65.60 |
| 8 | CBD MED Natural Flavour CBD Drops, 10% | 10% | 68.00 |
| 9 | Medicann flavour oil, 10% | 10% | 69.90 |
| 10 | CBD MED CBD Bio 10ml, 12% | 12% | 70.00 |
| 11 | Cannaliz Original Charlotte's Web CBD Oil, 12% | 12% | 91.00 |
| 12 | Swiss CBD oil drop neutral, 10% | 10% | 99.70 |
| 13 | Greenbird hemp oil, 10% | 10% | 99.90 |
From the cheapest CBD oil in the test (our Testsieger CBD Oil Pure 16%) to the most expensive, the price difference is almost 100%. It may therefore be worth taking a quick look at the calculator to compare the different prices. The price-performance ratio of CBD oils varies massively and the most expensive CBD drops are not always the best.
Mass per cent was tested instead of total mass CBD, which is actually wrong!
We were very pleased not only to be listed among the correctly dosed CBD oils, but also to be highlighted separately in the text as being particularly "generously dosed" (see below: marked excerpt from the K-Tipp article, page 23): Here, we are informed by K-Tipp that our CBD oil "generously" actually contains 18% CBD instead of 16%. However, the fact that this has little to do with generosity is briefly explained here:
On our product, as on all other reputable products, the total mass of the active ingredient in (mg) is stated in addition to the mass percentage tested by K-tipp.
Example 16% - 1600mg CBD
The specification in mg is the decisive factor, as it ensures the comparability of products. The mass percentage, on the other hand, always depends on the density of the carrier substance and can vary greatly if the amount of active ingredient remains the same. This is illustrated by an example: 1000mg CBD dissolved in 10ml water results in 10%, but in oil 11% and dissolved in alcohol the same amount of active ingredient results in almost 13% mass per cent.
As you can see, for CBD oils or tinctures (alcohol-based), only one of the two indications 16% or 1600mg is really true.
The total mass [mg] is therefore always important for the assessment of these products and not the percentage by mass. Although this can be helpful as a guide, it says little about the actual content. We adhere to this total mass specification (and all other manufacturers should also adhere to it). This means that 1600mg results in almost 18%. Especially with high-dose CBD oils such as our CBD oil Entire Stong with 3400mg CBD the difference can quickly become significant. If you take another look at the other products tested from this point of view, you realise that only the three ‘generously dosed’ CBD oils (CBD MED, Cannaliz and QUALICANN) comply with the stated absolute weight specifications! All other manufacturers undercut them or do not even state them.
Selected CBD test criteria - a missed opportunity
In the evaluation of CBD oils by Kassensturz, only the CBD content of the products was tested in order to obtain a CBD oil test winner Switzerland to determine. This approach, although important for determining product quality, represents only part of the possible evaluation criteria necessary for a thorough assessment. Limiting the test to CBD content alone is a missed opportunity to provide a complete picture of the quality and trustworthiness of CBD oils and their suppliers. Other important test criteria that were unfortunately left out of this CBD drops test and - due to the current regulatory situation - are also not checked by the authorities:
-
- Purity of the CBD dropsTesting for contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals or solvent residues.
-
- Manufacturing process the CBD dropsEvaluation of the extraction methods, the solvents used and their compatibility with humans and the environment.
-
- Labelling accuracyVerify that product labelling is accurate and transparent, particularly with regard to CBD and THC concentrations, carrier oils and origin of ingredients.
-
- Terpene profile and other cannabinoidsAnalysing the presence and concentration of other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes that significantly influence the profile of CBD oil.
-
- Naturalness of the ingredientsChecking the origin of the various ingredients. Are the cannabinoids natural or produced in a laboratory? Where does the carrier oil come from and what are its ingredients?
-
- Microbiological qualityTesting for bacteria, mould and yeasts to ensure consumer safety.
Buy CBD oil test winner Switzerland - what to look out for
Choosing the right CBD oil can be a challenge given the variety of products on the market. To make this easier for you, we have put together some important points that you should consider when buying CBD oil, regardless of whether it is a CBD oil test winner or not. A detailed You can also find a guide to buying CBD oil here).:
-
- Type of CBD extract: There are different types of CBD extracts, such as full spectrum, broad spectrum extracts and CBD isolates. Each of these forms has its own characteristics and benefits. While full-spectrum oils contain the full spectrum of cannabis ingredients, including THC, broad-spectrum oils offer a THC-free alternative. CBD isolates, on the other hand, consist of almost pure CBD.
-
- Ingredients and labelling: Make sure that the products provide a clear list of ingredients and the exact CBD content in per cent and milligrams. Be careful when interpreting the percentages as they depend on the density of the carrier.
-
- Price comparison: The prices of CBD drops can vary greatly. It is advisable to compare the prices per gram of CBD contained in order to determine the best price-performance ratio. Bear in mind that high quality has its price, but exorbitant prices are not always justified.
-
- Expiry date and lot number: A reputable CBD oil should always be labelled with an expiry date and a lot number. This information is important for the traceability of the product.
-
- Carrier material: The carrier oil is also an important factor. High-quality CBD drops often use better quality carrier oils such as hemp seed oil. Cheaper CBD drops, on the other hand, may use inferior oils such as sunflower oil.
In conclusion:
Inform yourself thoroughly about the product and the manufacturer. Not all CBD oils are the same, and it pays to understand the subtle differences. Some products contain THC, others do not. If you are unsure, ask the manufacturer for more information and choose a supplier that you trust and that fulfils your needs and expectations. A CBD oil test or selected CBD oil test winner, such as this one by Kassensturz, can certainly help. But they are not enough.
The goal must be to find a CBD oil that comes from a manufacturer that prioritises transparency, quality and safety. Taking these factors into account can help you make an informed decision and find your own personal CBD oil test winner!
